Mission: To serve as a resource for the lab’s Asian/Pacific community by encouraging and supporting an inclusive environment.

Vision: The group will directly contribute to Fermilab’s goal of retaining and recruiting a culturally diverse workforce by developing and fostering an environment which will allow Fermilab Asian/Pacific Americans to thrive as professionals.

Cultural celebrations

The Fermilab Asian Pacific Association welcomes members of the community and allies to participate in various celebrations throughout the year. Past events include:

  • “Processing Cultural Trauma: Intergenerational Effects of Japanese American Incarceration” by Professor Donna Nagata
  • “Standing Up Against Racial Discrimination: Civil rights activist and the Chinese Exclusion Act in the Late Nineteenth Century” by Professor Wenxian Zhang
  • “The Misreadings of the Paper Menagerie” Workshop by author Ken Liu in honor of Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
  • Dragon Boat Festival Get Together and Zongzi Demonstration
  • Virtual Lunar New Year Celebration
  • Diwali Festival Get Together
  • Mid-Autumn Festival and Moon Viewing
  • Lantern Festival

In honor of Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month, Fermilab’s Creative Services department developed virtual backgrounds and social media graphics. They are available for download in the gallery.
